I am selling my last 2 Sony A mount lenses.

On the Subject of Thick Skin

I put this thread squarely in the Leica forum because I'm certain that most Leica users have spent their share of time justifying their gear choices...

I put this thread squarely in the Leica forum because I'm certain that most Leica users have spent their share of time justifying their gear choices to themselves and all-knowing perfect strangers willing to take a shot at their gear choices.

Most of the time, however, the gear choice rationale seems much easier to summon than the defense of one's own style. I don't know about anyone else, but I can tune out a hundred nice shot opinions. Utter a dissenting critique/common, and that's the one I remember. Perhaps it's human nature or even a predisposition to earnestly evaluate all relevant criticism.

We've all discovered that people are certainly willing to express their negative opinions in the age of the internet ... and with ferocity.

My question is: Are the great photographers the ones with the thickest skins? Do they have an inherent ability to find relevance by ignoring nonconstructive criticism to emerge like fiery phoenixes with their shiny own visions?

It seems that the more people that embrace photography, the more it has become a spectator sport where gangs of new wave 'traditionalists' and leather-helmeted old schoolers are trying to dictate the rules of the game. Shoot with short lenses they say, shoot with film, shoot at f8 or higher, carry small lenses, and on and on. Only the brave are willing to color outside of the lines.

As I get older, I'm finding that I'm beginning to worry less about what anybody else tells me is the 'right' approach. I simply try to use what is in my camera bag to find the connection I'm looking for. And for me and my gradually thickening skin, I'm finding that's good enough.

I have an Olympus E3 that has seen very little use and its a shame to see such a capable camera go to waist. The lenses that come with it are all from the Pro series line of Zuiko Digital lenses.
12-60mm 1:28-4, 50mm 1:2 Macro, 50-200 1:2.8-3.5, battery charger and 2 batteries and the instruction book.
I wont be breaking the kit up so I thought long and hard on the asking price and think $1900.00 ono would make this a great buy for someone looking for a very flexable kit.

For sale, is my beloved ZM50 Sonnar, in chrome body. The barrel and glass are still in minty condition but there are dusts in the glass elements as the flashlight-test picture will show. Also included is the matching black vented hood, which is in good condition, few tiny dings, but not bent or un-round. There is focus shift which is common for this lens, and I believe this copy is optimized for f/2.8 based on my tests, which is better than f/1.5 if you use this as a general purpose lens (read more about it HERE). I have all of the caps and boxes, including the box for the hood. Selling because my finger slipped and bought the 50'Lux ASPH from another forum ;)

Price: $1100 paypal'd and shipped, CONUS only.

There is a guy in taiwan who will fix for $125 apparently. but as i have a Contax t2 aswell i simply can not be bothered to get it fixed myself.

Cosmetically it is in good/ok condition - 7/10

It comes with the box, instructions in german and english and the warranty card.

price wise i'll let it go for $165 paypal'd + tracked postage which seems a good deal after the other sold for 208.

Looking for a relatively quick sale

I've switched to shoot the Leica S2, so the Phase One gear is being sold to offset the Leica expense. Other Phase One gear is for sale in this thread (V-Grip, Extension Tubes, Metz SCA Adapter and Phase One 75-150D).

Phase One DF Body
Includes Brightscreen Microprism Screen
Price: $2250, Shipping $25 with insurance & tracking, +3% for Paypal, US Only.

The body was purchased from Calumet in Chicago and has ~18k clicks on it. The body is in excellent condition and looks almost like new. There are some rubs marks on the under-side, and that about it. It has the latest firmware installed (Ver 1.25) and a new Brightscreen Microprism (with the larger sized microprism). The screen cost ~$290 and took around 2 months to get. The sale includes the DF body, Brightscreen and Phase One Body cap. It does not come with a box.

RRS Mamiya 645III / DF L-Bracket
$100 Shipped & Paypal'd in the US

Bracket is in excellent condition. No paint loss, though I have not taken it off the camera to thoroughly inspect it.

Phase One 80mm F2.8 LS
Price: $2250, Shipping $25 with insurance & tracking, +3% for Paypal, US Only.

This the 80LS was purchased new from Optechs Digital in late February this year. The lens looks new and performs perfectly - very sharp even at F2.8. The sale includes the 80mm LS, original front & rear caps, hood, lens wrap and all the boxes & packaging.

Phase One P65+
Approx 17,800 captures, Mint Condition, Warranty until June 22, 2012
Price: $16,000, Ground Shipping $150 with insurance & tracking, +3% for Paypal, US Only.

The P65+ (Mamiya mount obviously) has worked perfectly. I purchased it with ~15k clicks and have ~3000 clicks on it. I have not found any hot pixels when shooting at normal ISO's (i.e. - 50-200). The rear LCD does not have any scratches. All buttons and connects work as they should. The sale includes the Phase One hard case, the Hahnel clam shell charger, 2 batteries, various cables and sensor cleaning kit. The only signs of use is a small paint rub on the lower left edge. Ted Pederson at Optechs (now Bear Images) said the warranty can be extended (Classic Warranty) for $1500/yr.
And this is one of them.
For Sale:

Black Nikon F2 with DE-1 eye-level prism, Nikkor 50mm F1.4 lens (Rubber Inset Focus Ring, multicoated), AR-1 soft release, and CH-1 fitted leather case. This camera is near perfect, I’m calling it a 9.8/10. Lens is near-perfect, as shown. Nikon “A” split-prism screen mounted in the camera. Case has protected all for a long time, strap is on the case- so no lug marks on the camera. Everything is working properly. I hold the right to ship after check/MO clears. 14 day return, shipping is not refundable.

I'm heading up to Portland for a weekend visit with friends. Traveling by air so I don't want to carry a lot, and the point of the visit isn't so much to do photography as it is to hang out and relax away from home. I am bringing the iPad because I want/need to do some work on my book over the weekend. k

So what equipment to bring?

Well, I could just toss the M9 with the 40 or 50mm lens into my bag and be done with that. Or I could do the same with the GXR. Or I could take one of the film cameras (Nikon F, Leica M4-2, Rollei 35S, Polaroid SX-70).

Or I could just say heck with it, bring the iPhone 4S and shoot any pix I want with that.

It's these quandaries of choice and intent, picking the equipment that fits some arbitrary bunch of circumstances, that I find get in my way more than anything else. Once I've got the gear in the bag and I'm out at wherever it is I'm going, I just work to make photos that I like with what's at hand.

The problem is I really like working with all of the equipment I have. So choosing, before I am out of reach of it, is difficult. When I had just one camera (well, one and its backup twin), decisions like this were simple.

What do you folks with a bazillion cameras and lenses do?
