Which Aerial Photographers Use Medium-Format Gear?

I'm an architectural specialist and I occasionally shoot buildings from choppers. I use both my Alpa STC and Phase One DF with my IQ180. BryanS

Hi Jack, I hope this message finds you well. We're having a late snow dump here in Switzerland...

Hi Jack, I hope this message finds you well. We're having a late snow dump here in Switzerland, so I'm packing gear to head out and shoot in the mountains! I have an admin issue I'd be grateful for some assistance on. The last couple of months, I've managed to acquire an online stalker/abuser. I...

    Medium format macro options

Most people who do this regularly have the camera mounted on some kind of micro-drive rail. It is generally easier to move the camera minute amounts than shift focus on the lens. There is usually too much backlash in the helical or monorail system to have the control necessary. I used to use the...

    Medium format macro options

Hi Gerald, I have some experience shooting both watches and jewellery at the magnifications you describe on MF digi and film for several outdoor and POS campaigns for a large Australian jewellery chainstore. Doug's advice is, as usual, spot-on. You will definitely need to stack to pull in even...

    Raincover for 645DF+ and lenses

Funny you should mention prophylactics, Ken. I once found myself shooting an offshore oil installation some in the Indian Ocean from a rigid-inflatable-boat that was bobbing around in 3m swells and 20+knot winds. Whilst I am a little blasé about fresh water on my gear, I treat salt water like...

    Phase One P45+ Life

Really?!!! How much is "over enough time" and where has this info come from? My IQ180 has hundreds of hours logged with no sign of any shift whatsoever. There are also lots of backs doing massive amounts of airtime on military and civvy aerial photography platforms. I would have thought we'd...

    Phase One P45+ Life

I have owned many digital backs (Leaf DDB I then II, Phase One H5, H10, H25, P25, P45+,P40+, P65+, Leaf Aptus 12, Phase One IQ180). I also spent 7 years as a senior manager in an organisation in Australia that owned and operated more than 30 backs in studios across the country that were deployed...

    Raincover for 645DF+ and lenses

I can pretty much back up all that has been said here. I am an architectural/industrial pro working anywhere a client will pay me to go. My Phase One DF kit, P45+ and IQ180, Alpa STC etc have been in action in Tropical cyclones in Indonesia and India, in rainstorms on the streets of Kuala Lumpur...

How well does the SK 47xl perform with the IQ180 back

Mal, To put it plainly, it is disappointing. It has a great big image circle but not enough resolution. Images are clearly lacking in resolution. You can see the difference without resorting to pixel peeping. The 47 is not up to par for the 80MP backs. Cheers

IQ260 native base ISO is at 100 for normal mode, and 200 for long exposure mode

As someone who trained and worked for many years as a pro in the era of shooting E-6 Tranny film in all formats from 35mm to 5x7in, back when real-world dynamic range was about 5.3 stops and 1/3stop overexposure meant blown highlights, the "terrible" performance of my IQ180 has me happy as a pig...
