CMOS Look, CCD Look in MF Sensors

Hello again, sorry for leaving an ambiguous comment, and then not responding for a while. Yes, "fat pixels" mean large sensor combined with low pixel count, so the pixel diameter is relatively large, which gives more subtle gradations. "Fat CFA" on the other hand is, as in Doug's article, a...

CMOS Look, CCD Look in MF Sensors

I don't think the consumers are demanding the CCD look in CMOS sensor, which is likely why we don't have it already. Consumers are demanding high FPS, high ISO, high MP, Live View, and all sorts of other things, but very, very, very few people are really interested in subtle colour...

CMOS Look, CCD Look in MF Sensors

I think CMOS chips are simpler and cheaper to make, so I suppose they will win in the long run.

CMOS Look, CCD Look in MF Sensors

I would be surprised if there was a difference between CMOS and CCD which couldn't be equalised by a sensor manufacturer. I suppose that the CMOS advantage at high ISO is partly bought by fiddling with the CFA, just like Canon's colour have gotten thinner and thinner with the years, as they try...

    Show us your Tech Cam

Is that an STC or a MAX? Sorry about the silly question, I don't know much about these cameras yet.

Fun with MF images - ARCHIVED - FOR VIEWING ONLY

Ah yes, I was there, June 2004, Eurographics, wasn't it? :) Please ignore the quality of the stitch, this was before my photographic reawakening and cheap, good stitching software.

Fun with MF images - ARCHIVED - FOR VIEWING ONLY

Same camera, but Schneider 40/3.5, same location (Sellin, Rügen, Germany), 0.4s @ f/5.7, ISO 100: I should probably spend a little more time matching white balance on these, since they were taken quite close to the same time, the second photo a little earlier.

Fun with MF images - ARCHIVED - FOR VIEWING ONLY

Sellin, Ostsee, Germany. Sinar Hy6, eMotion 75LV, Zeiss 80/2.8 @ 1/5s, f/5.7: I am finding this an interesting experience so far. The eMotion 75LV back delivers files which are very unlike my A7 files. The A7 files are good, but somehow feel blunt, and resistant to changes. I have to be...

    36 Megapixels vs 6×7 Velvia

You can also stack film images, so that doesn't really get us any further.

That it is crooked, or more likely, that it has its own address, but no apparent mailbox?

Fun with MF images - ARCHIVED - FOR VIEWING ONLY

Sinar Hy6, eMotion 75LV, Schneider 40/3.5 @ f/8, 29s, ISO 100. The Schneider doesn't have the same micro-contrast as Zeiss lenses, but it is sharp when stopped down a little! Long exposures isn't really the forté of this back, but with a touch of noise reduction, it does okay. Another one...

    Hasselblad Certified Pre-Owned Price Cut

The deals are mostly on older, CCD-based cameras.

    Hasselblad Certified Pre-Owned Price Cut

Isn't the Lunar discontinued? I thought I saw an announcement somewhere, but maybe I am wrong. In any case, I doubt that it is relevant or not, they surely have loads of stock, and will have for the foreseeable future :) And they did shut down the Italian design studios which was designing...

    Hassy vs. Mamiya 7II

True, but at least they are there! Many of the Schneiders are great (40, 80, 90, 180) and do not exist for Hasselblad. Anyway, my point was more that the 110/2 does not work with the 500-series Hasselblads being discussed, and the 2000-series equivalents are fragile and unsupported.

    Hasselblad Certified Pre-Owned Price Cut

Everyone around here is offering Hassies at cut-throat prices recently, and even the Lunar and all those are discontinued and being sold off at 1/10th the original price or something. They also shut down the Italian design centre which was coming up with these rebadges. It is enough to make me...

    Hassy vs. Mamiya 7II

The Hasselblad 110/2 only works with the focal plane shutter cameras, i.e. the 2000 and 200 series cameras, and these are very different than the 500 series cameras. The 2000 series had very fragile shutter, and are often damaged, and the shutters can no longer be replaced, as there are no spare...

Fun with MF images - ARCHIVED - FOR VIEWING ONLY

I do prefer the new version, but the first one was great too. It does look like there is moustache distortion still in the shot? Just judging by the waterline... Maybe I am seeing wrong, and the shoreline is fooling me.
