I figured there were comparisons of the D800 to just about everything else out there, so why not the Etch-a-sketch
While the D800 wins hands down in MP count and color saturation, the Etch a sketch has great grey tones, and for the price, it cant be beat!!!!. I think the going rate is about $25 for one of these babies.

Re: D800 vs Etch-a-Sketch
You just don't know how to get the most out of your Etch-a-Sketch. It is not just about the pixels, but the grain structure. Nikon does not have a shake and erase function for the memory cards, which is a deal breaker.

Re: D800 vs Etch-a-Sketch
I often get jaggies in diagonal lines with the Etch-a-Sketch. Is there something wrong with my RAW converter?

Re: D800 vs Etch-a-Sketch
How does Etch A Sketch work in auto focus? Also is it as weather proof as they claim? I think we need a long term test to be certain....

Re: D800 vs Etch-a-Sketch
Dont sell short the resolution of an etch-a-sketch.
Images are formed by accumulations of microscopic aluminum particles. I am sure that Stefan will be filling us in about future e-beam technology developments allowing control of each individual particle as a vast improvement over the two control dials. The etch-a-sketch has the same minimalist attractiveness of the M-Monochrom which was Leica's result after years of trying to get color right. -bob |

Re: D800 vs Etch-a-Sketch
Maybe I can sell it with a name like NoctiEtchy . Easy 10k or trade it for a S2. Oh wait I need 5 of them.
![]() No no no I can than get 2 D800 and one E version. So what do you think is the better camera now. I do have a thing for two round buttons and they twist.

Has anyone applied the new etchIt 1.01 firmware to address the lock up? My dealer suggested giving it a whack on the corner ...

Re: D800 vs Etch-a-Sketch
Lets all try and be unbiased! The Etch-a-Sketch doesn't use Saphire glass, so in time most of their screens scratch badly. On the plus side, I bet no one has seen evidence of Moire' on any Etch-a-Sketch image. Live view is sort of full time with Etch-a-Sketch and it never needs external sources of energy to power it. Combine this with a price thousands less than D800's and Medium format and it's a no brainer which wins!
Only thing missing is a USB port to download images.Since it's a slate, shouldn't we be comparing it to the ipad instead? LOL! Dave (D&A) |

I've had a loaner and as nice as it draws I decided it wasn't for me. I couldn't figure out how to save a single image

Etch-a-Sketch lens compatibility is poor at best. I can't tell my wife I want a new lens at any given moment. <walks away in disgust>

Re: D800 vs Etch-a-Sketch
Novice mistake. The EaS renders a natively sharper image. I find with an EaS I barely need to apply any sharpening at all.

Heck comes in 645 format too. Lol
Always portable, the 6.25 x 4.5 inch screen is perfect for home or on the go.

Re: D800 vs Etch-a-Sketch
Medium format EaS is dead now due to the release of the more portable pocket edition.
Amazon.com: Pocket Etch A Sketch by Ohio Art: Toys & Games I expect that soon all medium format EaS users will be throwing their previously top of the line trusted imaging tools to the side of the road. -bob |

What RRS plate are you using for that. I think it would work better on an Arca Swiss Cube. Do you know if the iPhone adapter mount is available for the electronic viewfinder app? |
