Old San Juan, Puerto Rico Workshop Announcement

Special announcement. (Updated 4/22/08) We do have a few spaces open

GetDPI is proud to announce Lance Schad from the Capture Integration Group www.captureintegration.com will be attending this workshop. Lance will be bringing demo gear in for attendees to try out the latest and greatest in medium format from Phase One with Mamiya demo bodies and a full system of lenses . Plus Cambo wides and other assorted gear. Lance will be on hand to assist in the workshop of any technical issues and address any area. Also Lance will work one on one with anyone that wants to get to know these systems and how they work. Great chance to play before making decision in the future on products that you are looking at. We also hope to have leica once again support our workshop as they have in all of our workshops. This is a great opportunity for you our workshop attendees .
The format of this particular workshop is applicable to all experience levels, and any camera make is welcome. Also, the shooting schedule will be relaxed enough so that even large format shooters can comfortably participate. Spouses are welcome to attend free of charge of workshop fees.

Our next workshop will be Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, where we'll be photographing primarily in street and travel photography. Dates, costs and all registration information can be found below in the details section.
Details:

Dates will be May 13th -17th, 2008 in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Our destination hotel reside right in the heart of the city of Old San Juan so rental cars are not needed. Taxi service is available to get to hotel. Our hotel is the famous El Convento http://www.elconvento.com/
A landmark monument to the Conquistador Age, Hotel El Convento showcases a timeless aura of Old World charm and splendor. Befitting its origins as a Carmelite convent 356 years ago, our splendid Puerto Rico luxury hotel is a loving restoration of Spanish Colonial architecture and design. Select from 58 elegant rooms -- each adorned with rich wooden beams, handcrafted tiles, carved chairs, velvet settees, and antique chests. Walk in the footsteps of world leaders and international celebrities at this world-class Old San Juan luxury hotel.

We have special pricing for this workshop from the hotel at 180 dollars per night plus tax, which include

The workshop will be geared to the city of Old San Juan with special landmark locations to visit and photograph. Plus we are planning a day trip to the Rainforest, which the fee is 45 dollars per person for the bus ride. Guides are extra and we will collect fees for this in San Juan if the group decides on this trip. Here are some links to places in and around San Juan. Special note our special assistant in Old San Juan is Todd Davis that will be our guide to all the fun things to do in around the city of Old San Juan . Todd will also be a attendee in the workshop as well. I would not miss this chance to shoot in one of the most historic places in the world. Our workshop will take you into the streets and teach you how to compose, frame , expose and learn how to be a better artist than you are today. Jack and I are highly experienced in the shooting world and our raw processing and Photoshop techniques will train you to take your images further.

This workshop is limited to 12 participants, we must have 8 participants to make this a go. Folks I apologize for such a short notice but we are under the gun to get this all booked and ready to go ASAP. Please do not hesitate to get in the workshop and start booking your airfare and room. The workshop fee for this destination is $1395. A deposit of $750.00 is required to reserve your space. The final balance will be due 14 days prior to workshop or May 1st. PayPal or Check is fine. Itinerary, San Juan Puerto Rico, May 13 – 16, 2008
Note that sunrise is approximately 7:15AM and sunset approximately 7:15PM

Tuesday, May 13th
7:30PM to 8:30PM Rum Reception provided by the El Convento Hotel followed by a group dinner. (http://www.elconvento.com/index.cfm) Note that all meals are optional, but we encourage participants to join in as a group. We do discuss a lot of photography and always have a ton of fun during them!

Wednesday, May 14th
7:00AM Optional morning street shoot near hotel, on your own
8:30AM Breakfast meeting at the Patio del Nispero, Serving Gourmet Fare And An Alfresco Ambiance in the El Convento Hotel (http://www.elconvento.com/dining/patio_del_nispero.cfm)
10:00AM After breakfast we will gear up with demo gear and equipment to hit the streets of Old San Juan. We will stop at various places and go through composition, lighting, exposure and other shooting techniques.
1:00PM Break for lunch at a local restaurant and avoid the bad light of the day and continue discussions on photography. (Note that at every break we will have discussions on techniques.)
3:00PM Head out to shoot at and around Fort El Morro (the West end) through sunset.
8:00PM Meet for group dinner at one of the area’s hot spots

Thursday, May 15th
6:30AM Early morning shoot. (The East end of Old Fort is a possible location, but it’s about 1-1/2 miles from our hotel, so we’ll want to arrange cabs the evening before if interested.)
10:00AM breakfast at hotel, personal time off
Noon Raw processing and Photoshop techniques lecture/demo at hotel
3:00PM head out for another sunset shoot

Friday, May 16th
Most of the day Option to take the Rain Forest trip for the half day if the group decides on this, OR more street shooting in and around Old San Juan. We will determine this as a group by Wednesday evening.
5:00PM One-on-one critiques of images
8:00PM Dinner and official close of the workshop

Saturday, May 17th
Checkout day, but Guy will be available 8:30AM thorough 11:30AM for more one-on-ones, as needed.

Just another note of interest this maybe our last workshop until the fall season due to summer break and spouses are invited to San Juan at no cost in workshop fees. There will be plenty for them to do and we have Todd's wife to guide them around as well. Hopefully we will have demo gear for them to play also. Provided by Leica support

Folks, this is a GREAT location for doing travel and street shooting. Just a ton of stuff to shoot, and all within walking distance of our hotel. In fact, our hotel is smack dab in the middle of it all

The cutoff date for hotel reservations under our block is May 2nd after that no guarantee on getting our discounted rate.
