Hi,

my latest acquisition, a Falcon 85/1.4 (identical to the Samyang) is made in Korea.
It's a modern lens, not a vintage.

Here's a few examples !

All shot handheld and wide open !

Looks really nice. It must be one big, heavy lens. Can You post picture of lens attached to camera?

Very nice Rafael. Is it big and heavy or does it feel right on the camera?
Where can you buy them? Ebay?

Hi,

here's some pics of my G1 with this lens attached.

Pics taken with my also brandnew Omnia, I had to search a while to be able to find them on my mobile :eek:

The lens weight is 513 g (in Nikon mount) according to the datasheet, but it feels really good and solid. Well equilibrated when shooting handheld also.

Only regret : minimum focusing distance = 1.00 m, so no close-ups pics possible.

Thanks for your comment on the portret, Vivek, the lady of the house is also quite happy with it. Maybe, she will even allow me to buy one more lens now :confused::confused:

Hi, Michiel,

I do not find this lens to be big and heavy, it feels just right on my G1, and perfectly allows for handheld shooting. Focusing is also very easy with the extremely bright image (f1.4, remember) in the EVF

I bought it from Ebay, from this shop :

ca 250 Euro + postage, well spent I think !

Thank you Rafael.
People and you on fora are enthousiastic about this lens. It is a cheap alternative for a Zeiss Planar 1.4
I have to wait to materialize the cash a little :) (Quote from Godfrey as he knows to put the words right so well)

Whenever you run into a nice bokehshot with this lens, show it please, because that is one of the reasons I am interested.

Kind regards, Michiel

Hi Rafael,

I got interested by your examples, your pictures are beautiful. Before deciding whether to buy one, too, I searched various fora and on flickr found the following thread: WARNING bad built 85mm 1.4 about the aperture blades getting stuck after short time use.

I hope this does not happen to you.

Cheers

Sorry to be the one always relating bad news. On another thread on Flickr:

After about 300 exposures using the A-position of the aperture ring my lens also developed a tendency for stuck aperture blades. To open them up again it worked best to use DOF preview at F1.4 one or two times.

In the A-position there is some additional blade activity, it works like this:
Close to planned aperture position -> take picture -> close fully (F22) -> open fully (F1.4). Probably this creates some additional stress for the aperture mechanics. In the non-A-position the blades will open up (F1.4) immediately after taking the picture.
Apparently in the A-position the closing of the blades is done incrementally through electronic feedback, taking several images at F2 when the blades are already stuck can close the blades further with each image.

I now avoid using the A-position, the aperture blades seem to work more reliable that way.

I'll keep my fingers crossed, and you all informed.
So far, maybe 100 shots, and absolutely no problem with the aperture, because I set it to 1.4 and it stays there :D:D

I just played a little with the aperture ring, and it moved smoothly as should be.

I have no idea what the second man is complaining about, because my lens does not even have an A setting. It is to be manually set to the desired aperture, and manually focussed.

OK, I read it, Peter, but my lens is a Nikon mount, and it does not have the A position thant the Pentax has. Aperture on mine can be changed only manually, on the lens.

Rafael,
on the Nikon, don't you set the aperture to 22 and lock it for working in the A mode of the Nikon camera? Of course, this does not apply to the G1.

Hi, Peter,

my Nikon gear is "vintage analog" stuff, that I do not use anymore.
So, my only use of this lens will be on the G1, and I do not expect problems with aperture.

I wish you all the best, Rafael, please keep us updated, it looks like a very interesting lens if it has no problems. I would like to use it on both the D700 and the G1, so I shall be on the look out for more future information.

Cheers

Beautiful pics. It's obviously really the photographer, not the lens, so many people here show great shots with whatever lens they use. Just wondering about this one: Has anybody ever tried the fisheye from this company on m4/3?

No, Stefan, I haven't, but the lens sure does interest me.
However, I do not know what to expect as a result with the crop factor of 2x :confused::confused:

If some lens specialist could tell me if there is going to be any difference with my 7-14 @ 8mm ????

Rafael
