Pentax 25mm f/1.4 C-mount seems to be very popular lately...

I was looking around online for this lens (since I couldn't find Vivek's Computar 25mm f/1.3). B&H is on backorder, so I emailed another CCTV supplier who listed it on their web site. They told me that Pentax has received many orders for this lens from US, Canada and Europe so no stock is available or imminent. I doubt demand for this lens suddenly skyrocketed for CCTV use, so I imagine the boost is due to M 4/3 usage.

Here is a link with some more info on this lens.

And an associated Flickr page with some bigger sample shots-

I know a few have posted about this lens here, in particular this was a great thread showing the Pentax compared to some other fast c-mounts-

FYI, I ended up ordering this lens at spytown.com which accepts Paypal payment (feels safer.) It's $92 w/ another $11 for FedEx Ground shipping. EDIT- I just got an email that they are out of stock but will have it in December...

Hint:

Check out ccd/cctv cameras. I bought a Costar CV-M50 ccd camera on the bay for $95 that came with the Computar 25/1.3 lens. Fine lens, now if I can just figure out what to do with a B&W ccd camera.

I probably should have kept my Pentax, but I just sold it  Too many 25mms in the house. I also managed to snap up a Computar 25/1.3 (for $49) here http://www.powellsurplus.com/VisionSys.htm . My understanding was that this was their last one or I would have mentioned it here before, but if anybody wants to bother them about it again, just to make sure, please go ahead. They also had a Fujinon 1" CCTV lens, but I have to shamefully admit that I haven't had a chance to play with either of them, yet. Sorry, never heard of Avenir.

Ha well I just bought one for $25AUD on ebay shortly after my post just for curiosity sakes. No info in english at all on the web, all i know is that its japanese, sometimes used to observe scientific experiments and there is another model that is 25mm f0.95 that is 3times the price of whatever asian currency it was..lol

Would still like to get my hands on the pentax too.

I wonder if the Cosmicar/Pentax lens and the Computar have similar optical formulas. They have very close specs, size, and pricing.

3x the the price for a f/.95 version is still a good value considering price of f/.95, but I don't know if it is really worth that extra stop.

Sorry, just to clear it up for me: What 0.95 lens are we talking about and where would I get that?

Thanks,

Stefan

I gave them a call, they accept payment through Paypal.

I don't believe he actually has any Computar 25mm f/1.3 left, but he does have Pentax/Cosmicar 25mm f/1.4. I didn't ask about any other lenses, although there is a Canon and Tamron on that page that are also fast 25mm.

I went ahead and ordered a Pentax from them.

Thanks for posting the link!

I just search it.

computar 25mm f1.3 it's new.

Well, they are depleted at this source, I use a Fuji 25mm f1.4 that is a terrific lens, but you can get the 12.5mm here for $25.00. Some hard vignetting occurs, but it is still worth it:

LOL, I ordered the Computar version from Surplusshed a couple of days ago. It's a 12.5mm f/1.3.

So did they used to have the Fuji 25mm f/1.4 there? I only ever saw the 2 different 12.5mm lenses.

EDIT- Also, CCDWorld still has 1 Pentax 25mm f/1.4 left, like new for $48...

Surplusshed also have that Pentax 12.5/1.4 on ebay...

Thanks for the link, thats pretty cheap.

What type of adaptor would I need for this lens? I can only find 16mm C-mount adaptors to micro 4/3, Is that the right size for this lens:confused:

for 12.5mm/1.4,You should trim off some bottom parts as the diameter cannot fit into the adapter. The internal diameter of the adapter is just 37.2mm while the lens is about 39mm as I know. You should ask somebody to use a lather to trim it.

Also, the '16mm' doesn't refer to the focal length of the lens, it refers to 16mm film, which these lenses were used for.

The adapter is for all c-mount lenses from wide to telephoto. However, some lenses may require some modification to work- the c-mount wasn't a very clearly defined spec.
