Sigma DP1

Hope people don't mind but I thought it would be worth starting a general DP1 thread for any images from this camera that people might like to post.

A couple I took today in very strange stormy light.

Hi Will, I like your first shot - the composition and contrast is excellent!

Here are my two from today... classic case of having the DP1 with me.

Kind Regards

Brian

Good pictures Brian. What on earth are they doing?

Here is another one from today, taken and the V&A in London. Putting it up for helen to help her agonize more over whether to get the DP1 or not ;)

If possible, could you tell us all the amount of PP going on when you post these images? I'm genuinely interested in a DP1 due to a disability, but some of the pics seem oversaturated and overprocessed.

pcheywood, I process my DP1 images in Lightroom and intentionally undersaturate the colors. I like the sense of heightened reality the restrained colors tend to give the DP1 images. Just a personal preference, though.

Here's a B&W image from the same trip. I mistakenly shot it at ISO 100, so I had to push it quite a bit to lighten it.

I push my images all over the place to get the look I like so they are often too far past normal for most people. If you want to you can get beautifully neutral images, but that isn't my way.

Same file with neutral settings and no pp except a crop.

I have the DP1 and Voigtlander finder sitting here on the desk, waiting for the second battery to charge.

I have asked Jack if the DP1 needs/deserves a thread of its own (APS-H sensor, so neither 'small-sensor' nor 4/3rds). It definitely is a pocket camera, and the Brightline finder is just so small; looks as though it belongs there. cheers, kl

Helen, I don't have any DP1 gambler-related shots. I may have something from my previous Vegas trip that was shot with a GRD2. I'll rummage around and see what turns up.

I tried to take a shot of some poker players as I walked through a casino, but was told not to by one of the dealers at another table. They were probably concerned about cheating.

If any of you lucky ones with a DP1 could humour me and produce the follwing Id be very grateful;it might be completely unnecessary as maybe what Id like to see can be seen without this being done:sleep006:sorry,to the point:-Id like to see a landscape shot (with some sort of marker on the edges of the frame, left and right)taken full frame. Then another shot of the same landscape using the camera as if it had a 35mm equiv.lens on(using the markers of the full frame shot to be at the edges of the 35mm shot obviously by walking backwards). If anyone has the voightlander 28/35 finder this would be easier . Thanks for looking, all the best,Neil.

Hi Neil, I could do that easily when I get out next - if I use the E-420 + 12-60mm f2.8-f4 lens I can simply zoom to both settings from the same spot.

Kind Regards

Brian

I think nei1 wanted DP1 files?

I was working from home today but went into my garden to stretch my legs and, not wanting to waste an opportunity, I took these. Not as exciting a view as yours though Brian. I REALLY like the one of the wall btw.

Oops sorry - I just thought it would be easier/more accurate with a zoom lens. I guess I could still use that method for reference... setting up for the DP1 shots.

Kind Regards

Thanks Brian, its my fault for a jumbled post, what Im after is the same photograph taken with the dp1 at 28mm and 35mm(by wasting about a third of the sensor)so I think you would need a 35mm frame line as well as the 28mm to walk back and put the reference points from the 28mm shot on to the frame edges of the 35mm finder. The "35mm" lens photo would then be cropped in photoshop to the same reference points that the full frame 28mm shot has at its edges. You then end up with 2 almost identical photos, one taken with the perspective of a 28 and one with a 35.Id also be able to see how the quality is if I chose to use this camera as if it had a 35mm lens. What Id like to see is the two photos together, both showing the same field of view, but one taken with the 28mm and the other as if the camera had a sensor approx.two thirds the size and had a fixed 35mm lens instead. Im sure theres an easier way of explaining this, just cant think of it,sorry, again, thanks for looking,Neil.
