haven't tried that one.

i plan on testing as many as possible during the Moab workshop.. given the amount of glass that will be there, we should have pretty much everything covered

I'll have those two with me, too, Bob! I suspect the WATE is okay, as LFI did a spread where it was used for IR (false color) and the shots looked beautiful.

What is a quick test for hotspot or not?
Wide open or fully stopped down?
thanks

p.s.
I have it on good authority that Moab is NOT a hotspot:ROTFL:

the more the lens is stopped down, the more visible the hotspot. as an example, the CV15 exhibits a hotspot, but you can use it fairly wide open with great depth of field, so it might not be apparent in a print

Maggie,
an IR Hotspot will look like a hazy light blob in the middle of the image.
It shows up more at small apertures with an IR-pass filter mounted on the lens (such as a B+W 092 or 093).
If you look at the image in PS in the channels view, it is most visible in the blue channel, so one strategy to make it go away is to use only the red channel. Unfortunately, that limits you to a monochrome rendering unless you overlay with color from a non-ir filtered image.

Have you been shooting IR pictures with an IR transmitting filter in front of the lens?
Ah, so it only manifests when shooting IR with a filter?

That would explain why I haven't seen it.

Obviously, I am a complete idiot and possibly illiterate.

the B+W 092 and the Hoya 72 are the same and will cover most of the lens sizes you are likely to need...
