Thank you, Carl. For the modest outlay the kit lens is hard to beat. FWIW, mine performs somewhat better in the close range than at distance.

Love the ice abstracts Arne! The second one in your last post is my favorite.
Carl, the first image in #49 is beautiful. The green is vibrant and natural, and the whole shot makes a 3D impression. My 70 year old dad thought I was loony for making manually focused, film photos while he was having fun with a whole new class of digital camera: ![]()

. I remember my father shooting film with a Nikon SLR when I was very young. He transitioned to digital with the Canon D30, and before the G1 had a 20D. I pre-ordered a 5D II for him, but when he tried the G1, he had me cancel the 5D II order. I don't remember him ever liking a camera this much.

Re: Fun with 4/3rds cameras/ Image Thread
When I go visit my dad and bring along an old Leica or a Nicca (what he used in the Korean war) he isn't much interested. But if I bring out the D700 suddenly he wants to talk cameras.

Re: Fun with 4/3rds cameras/ Image Thread
This is a great thread to watch. It looks like the G1 is becoming a popular camera and something of a cult camera what with all of the adapters coming out. I might have to look more deeply into it.

Re: Fun with 4/3rds cameras/ Image Thread
My father called me after receiving the Panasonic 50-200 yesterday. He told me that he took the lens out and immediate made some photos inside the house with the light low and his hands "shaking like crazy" (dad has always had a shake). He couldn't believe the shots all came out sharp. He never said much about the IS in his Canon 17-55. 70-200, or 100-400, so I was a bit surprised to hear him so impressed with the results of MegaOIS.
I asked him if he liked the lens overall (image quality, feel, performance), and he said "it's the best thing I have seen in forty years". How's that for an endorsement? Next time we speak, I've got to remember to ask him what it was he liked so much 40 years ago .

Re: Fun with 4/3rds cameras/ Image Thread
Dang. You guys make the G1 sound downright fun. My red copy arrives Tuesday, but I have to go to NY on Tuesday for a few days. It would have been nice to have the camera to learn and play with on those long flights and in Manhattan. My Ricoh GX200 will have to suffice

Re: Fun with 4/3rds cameras/ Image Thread
One of my favorite San Francisco treats is the Saturday morning farmers market at the Ferry Building. Yesterday was the first time I got there. For those not familar with or from this area of California, there is a tremendous amount of farming close by. Just one from yesterday as the angle of the light and shadows made it hard to shoot....I liked the farm name....

Nicely composed shot Terry. Farmers markets are a great place to shop, socialize, and of course take photos.

Hi Klaus
I like the vegetables . . . I'm not usually popular if I post ageing vegetables (the boss gets stroppy!). It was very dark here today . . . so that for the most, ISO 400 with the 50mm macro at f2 yielded a shutter speed of about 1/80th. But the dog needed walking anyway. here are some black and whites with the G1 and the Olympus 50mm macro all at 400 ISO, mangled, and without noise reduction ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Jonathan, the dog portrait is WOW.
Like it. It seems that the G1 turns out to be a really great cam. I tested one in the mall, but i am not a friend of EVF.... |

Ah! now we can really agree about something! I don't like them either . . . . but hear what Carl says, this one is excellent in good light (well, everything except Mall lighting). . .and the viewfinder is much much MUCH bigger and easier to manual focus that the E520 / E420. I don't like it in low light for people, but other than that it does work well.

Hi Carl. Your mild is my brrrrrr.
It's sort of rainy here today so I spent time at the camera shop putting various Oly lenses on my G1. Anyone looking for the 45-200 they do have one more in stock. |

Not meant to be a great shot. Just a test with the Hoya R72.
IR with the G1 at !SO 800, no NR pp applied, .4 second, handheld, Custom WB on green. Edited in PS.

Is that a dog . . . or a polar bear
![]() Whatever, it's amazingly compliant, my dog would be trying to eat the camera if I did that . . . did you anesthetize her/him first? |

Re: Fun with 4/3rds cameras/ Image Thread
Hi Doug,
I don't think its very IR sensitive, comparing it to the one camera I owned, Oly C2100 which really allowed hand held shots. It seems to be on a par with other cameras in my experience. But what surprised me was the cleanness of the ISO 800 image. This was the stickler with the other cameras- noisy skies and fuzzy trees. In very bright sun and mostly on a tripod it could be nice. I keep toying with the idea of getting a IR dedicated camera. But money, money! Antara |

Never meet a lab I did not like. Great breed in dogs. I had a chocolate female and she still brings back great memories for my family. We lost her in a freak accident a couple years ago at a kennel.

I've shot a good bit of IR with various cameras and Hoya R72 filters--that doesn't interest me much anymore either, but though its nice to shoot IR handheld, carrying a separate body or shooting ONLY IR also doesn't appeal to me.f AND--I, too, am trying to downsize my gear while maintaining the IQ and fun factor I want. Christmas is coming ... and now my family booked me for intense fotowork. Nothing i dont like but this will reduce my fun-time-for-forum-reading.
So take this. It will keep your home in good shape and will chase away all bad ghosts ... taken from the vikings |

Re: Fun with 4/3rds cameras/ Image Thread
Ok so here is how it goes... a procession of a couple hundred people appear outside our apartment. I grab the 510, chuck on the 12-60 and dash out
of course its dusk in december in Paris... so its 1600 ISO aperture priority and hope for the best.. too dark for good autofocus. a little PP in Aperture and here we are... not sharp but there is something there... or so I think see the rest at http://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinparis2007
