Sony lenses: USA vs Asia?

Hi folks, crowdsourcing here. What would be the reason not to buy a Sony lens new from Asia? In particular Japan, Hong Kong, or Taiwan. Will Sony USA honor the original warranty?

What about used equipment? I was looking at an AF APO 400/4.5G HS from a seller in Japan - would Sony USA service it if needed (for money)? BTW, any experience with this lens... it's extinction resolution seems to be roughly what's needed on the a850/a900 (though seemingly not enough to get 24MP worth of image out of the a77).
