SonyStyle NEX 7 Order Update

Looks like my credit card just got charged by SonyStyle for a NEX7 body only ordered back in October. If you have orders outstanding with them you may want to check and see the status.

Also, since B&H took a bunch of pre-orders last week dealers might also be getting a batch really soon.

Same order date and yes, on truck for delivery. I will have a happy friend when I deliver this one. I scored one from B&H before x-mas.

I've ordered my NEX7 at end of october - no water in Thailand
and got it yesterday from my dealer. Took me 10 minutes, paying cash.
Sony price -29%.

It's a nice dealer - if it would be snowing on Dec.24th, 12 o'clock, there would be additional -50% discount.

Would I live at Innsbruck/Tyrol, there it was snowing and price of NEX7 (or other things bought 2 weeks before Xmas)
was Sony-price -29% (preorder) and -50% = ONE THIRD (!) of Sony-price. Dealer had an insurrance for snowing, hehehehehe.

But now I've my NEX7 + Tamron 18-200 & I am a happy man. I inserted a charged $8.80 China-battery & SDHC card,
Tokina 18-200 and made 360 pictures. Battery shows now 45% power - it is 50% stronger (1600mAh) than 10x priced Sony battery.

I preordered body and lens from the Sony store. It would be a shame if my order is delayed further. If they had notified me I could get body only, I would have jumped at it! Silver kit lenses are readily available. I assume the hold up is the black kit lens. I could care less what color it is. Sony is not handling this vey well.

I received an email from Sony stating my preorder is now scheduled to ship Feb 17. My birthday is Feb 20. That would be a wonderfull birthday! In my case, it is a little bit of a special day because I will turn 75 yrs old. FEB 20 is a special day for me and Ansel Adams (not kidding, also his birthday.....look it up!!).

I agree it is difficult to know what to think. After I ordered mine I received the following dates: On 12/20/2011 I was told shipping would be 4/3/2012
On 12/23/2011 I was told shipping would be 3/2/2012
On 2/5/2012 I was told 2/17/2012

just got a telephone call from sony, my nex 7 kit order was promised march 2, now they cancelled the order and reordered it to ship 3/26, credit card not charged yet, free shipping is my bonus for waiting so patiently...

I pre-ordered my NEX 7 from a normally reliable retailer before Christmas and subsequently canceled when they advised of an indefinate delay. They still do not have any stock, but I was lucky enough to get one from another well known UK supplier who had just 4 in stock in the entire UK! For some strange reason my local branch had one of them (we are quite cut off here and usually don't get early supplies of new equipment). NEX 7's are pretty rare around here and so I count myself as being very fortunate to have found one.

Finally managed to find a NEX7 body in stock at B&H 3 days ago. Promptly ordered and delivered yesterday. Cancelled my long standing (since 8/23/11) order with Amazon.

They did the same thing to me . Ordered on 1/1/12 charge authorized on amex ,received update around 1/30 indicated shipping on 2/10 on 2/17 they canceled the order. Credit card date expiration date changed at end of January. Ok this can happened but normally I get an email requesting an updated card . The clincher though was that they said I could reorder thru sales ...and start the process all over . No ability to create a priority order .

They called back the next day indicating that they could ship me one on 3/26? A quick check of the website showed a delivery date of 3/5 for new orders.

Done with ordering anything thru Sony . I should have known better they have had terrible customer service for years.

B&H now states they are taking pre-orders, and there is "limited release". I have a pre-order with them, and am still waiting. I cancelled my long standing pre-order with Sony, because they changed anticipated ship date three times.

someone on DP announced that bodies could be ordered, I did & it should be
here on Wednesday! I'm keeping my kit order in until I know that the body is
operating properly. If the kit comes available soon I may send the body back
as the price of the kit lens is a deal.

I ordered the NEX-7 Kit from Sony Style over 6 months ago on August 28th. I have since received many emails of order delays. The last one was sent Monday 2/27 saying it will ship 3/2. Well, 3/2 came and went no updates from Sony and myself and several others who received the email called and were given incomplete info while the order status remains the same as it has for 6 months. It's hard to understand how B&H has already shipped a bunch (that were ordered in February) while Sony itself can't seem to communicate or get some cameras ordered 6 months ago out the door.

Doesn't seem to make sense does it? My initial order (2/8/2012) was
for a body only from Sony Style but the more I thought about paying
tax, the less I liked it. I cancelled and ordered the kit from B&H. Now
the body is on it's way and I'm amazed that people who ordered last
year are still waiting...... amazing.

As far as I know kits haven't shipped at all (except a few before the floods). The only thing I've seen shipped is bodies. Obviously Sony is having more trouble getting the lens production ramped back up. The 50mm lens was also months late and it just started shipping over the past week. Do you honestly think this is the way Sony wanted the launch to go? The people in Thailand and their well being seem to be more important than a shipping date for cameras.

Well, there is one gentleman who received a malfunctioning "7" &
now he's waiting as if at the back of the line. More than likely I
will simply keep the body but B&H will move the product no matter
what I do. Wait, should I feel sorry for B&H because of their
return policy? After all the money that I have spent over the

Kits have shipped in Canada, Europe and B&H shipped it's first batch last week. At this point it is not a Thailand Flood issue, it's a Sony issue.
I know that is not what Sony wanted but they have totally screwed this up. As I said last Monday I (as well as many others with early orders) were sent an email saying it would ship on 3/2 (Friday) Friday came and went, no new email, no shipping update, nothing. That is poor customer service.

When you log on to SonyStyle what does the status show? What does your credit card show?

I didn't see that any kits shipped must have missed that.

My Sony order says it will ship 8/28/11 I have called Sony Customer Support several times and they say it should be released for shipment as soon as they start shipping.

On the DP Review NEX forum many people received kits last week from B&H and Amazon is shipping some this week (their CCs have been charged).

Agree. He gets to use the body for free, until the kit arrives and then he would swap the body-only with the kit version ! If he wants the kit version, then he should just return the body right away, than continue to keep and use it.

Well B&H already has some policy guidelines on camera returns

"Items with timers must show less than 120 minutes of use. Items with shutter counters must show less than 200 exposures."

this was not a "tactic" but simply a response to what came available. Basically, if the kit ships
before I receive the body, it will go back unused. If the "7" doesn't perform up to my expectations
then it will go back anyway. I am looking for a quality increase over my older m4/3 on my telephoto.
I will be giving up "reach" for pixels and chip size. If the "7" doesn't provide the expected boost on
quality/detail then I will punt, return & wait for the OMD.
