RED Epic Stills
Now that the "End of Photography..." thread has settled a bit I thought I would post a few captures with RED Epic. These are part of video captures but in my mind they do work as single captures...format is either 2:1 or 16:9 dependent upon the capture.
These were done over the past few months in 5K and 4K HD as firmware from RED has evolved. Due to the file size for the video, still output allows an expedient way to present the captures. All were processed in RED CINE X Pro output through RED Player and then processed in CS6 Photoshop....at points the PP is somewhat extreme with grain added for effect in a few of the files. In my mind the whole MF/RED thing is a bit of a distraction....shooting 4K at 96 or 24 FPS is a whole different reality from a highly resolved capture of an instant in time. Do not expect a debate on any of this. Not what this thread is about. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Bob Last edited by docmoore; 28th May 2012 at 14:00. |

Re: RED Epic Stills
Thanks Don.
Tends to grow on one...but I would not use it as my primary stills camera. Bob |

Re: RED Epic Stills
I have printed several 48" x 24" canvas giclees from 5K Epic frame grabs of footage shot by Jarred Land (the CEO of RED) ... one of which is hanging in his office. The files were "developed" in RCX Pro using RC3 and RG3 using Jim Jannard's favorite "recipe" and exported as .Tiffs. The .Tiffs were re-sized for final print output at 300 dpi in Perfect Resize and printed on BC Lyve archival canvas on a Canon ipf8300 fine art printer. The results were definitely "gallery quality."

Re: RED Epic Stills
Love to explore that recipe...I am still somewhat linked to RLF for certain files but do think Graeme has done wonderful things with the new RC3.
Saw the Alchemy at 0.350 and Sat to 1.1 but unsure if this is all that you refer. Suggestions? Thanks, Bob Last edited by docmoore; 30th May 2012 at 15:29. |

Re: RED Epic Stills
Bob, care to post a camera porn shot of the rig that took all of those lovely photos? The Red is so bloody configurable, I am curious to see what arrangement you used.

Re: RED Epic Stills
This is the only picture I have...I was testing my Leica SF 58 and shot the RED while it was in repose on the floor....
The camera is shown with 5 inch screen a ZF2 25 and back plate for a V-Lock battery that is not attached in the photo. This is the right side so you can barely make out the side handle. ![]() Bob |
