    The Leica Picture Thread

Does anyone know why I can only see this thread listed on the forum home page? If I click to view the Leica topics, this thread isn't listed. In the meantime, here's a couple of recent photos. Both taken with SL2-S and 35mm Summilux-M ASPH (FLE). Connel (near Oban) Loch Creran.

Mr. Polaroid | Full Documentary | AMERICAN EXPERIENCE | PBS

The Polaroid of today is only marginally connected with the Polaroid of old (some of the former Polaroid workers in the Netherlands helped start up new production of instant film that will work in SX-70 cameras, etc. but it is not the same film by any means). Fujifilm may have retained its...

Tariffs and the future of MFD

Surely, the tariff is determined by the stated final country of manufacture? Even if the 45P is made up of significant Chinese made components, the "Lens Made in Japan" declaration on the product and its packaging should determine the level of tariff when being imported into the USA. I can only...

Tariffs and the future of MFD

Leica's price rises are probably indicative of what is coming with Hasselblad prices (at least in the US). The made in China accessories like the batteries, lens mount adapters, and 907x optical viewfinder are likely to jump significantly and, I guess, the XCD 75P lens could become uncompetitive...

    Hasselblad 100C and 35XL

I suspect that's right. At the price point Hasselblad want to sell the 100CFV they probably have to buy the sensors from Sony as standard off the shelf stock. @tcdeveau aside, nobody is asking for PDAF capability in the 907x 100CFV combo (I sometimes wonder whether I'm the only one that thinks...

Tariffs and the future of MFD

Still, the good news for US photographers is that Rochester made Kodak film will be relatively unaffected by the tariffs (raw materials are likely to cost more going forward if the tariff regime persists). Time to dust off those film backs and Leica M bodies and forget about fancy new P1 cameras.😀

Architecture photography - a proposition for the GFX 100RF

you are making a number of assumptions and neglecting to take into account enlargement factors. The GFX sensor cropped might be larger than the Leica sensor uncropped and will likely be larger once the latter has been cropped to do the keystoning trick.

Architecture photography - a proposition for the GFX 100RF

I'm not sure what the advantage of using the twice as expensive (and much heavier) combo of a Leica (M11 or SL3) and 28mm lens (28 APO-SL being especially large and heavy) compared to the OP's suggestion. The Leica combo's lens will likely have the edge but you are still cropping (an even...

    Fuji GFX 100RF

The new camera is an interesting development. It could be seen as Fujifilm's affordable response to Phase One's $60k XC camera and, if I didn't already own a 907x (and have become used to Hasselblad's software interface and excellent colour), I could have been tempted. I don't mind the single...

Photographs inspired by Eliot Porter and his work

"Extraction" is quite a nice way of thinking about this kind of thing. Being a mostly (moderately) wide-angle user I don't get the same level of abstraction in my landscapes. I might think about using a longer focal length more often because the flattened perspective of a telephoto can be quite...

Photographs inspired by Eliot Porter and his work

To be honest, I've only recently looked at Eliot Porter's photographs but it is a type of landscape work that I appreciate (I am much more familiar with Peter Dombrovskis). For that reason, I don't have any photos directly inspired by Porter (I also tend to photograph with much shorter lenses...

    Fun with MF images 2025

A couple of views of Great End in the Lake District. The summit of this fell marks the north-eastern end of the Scafell massif, the highest land in England (which, at around 3000ft or so, isn't very high by international standards 😆). 907x CFV II 50c and 45P.

    Fun with MF images 2025

First time I'd been out with the Hasselblad (or any non-phone camera) since the end of November. Both from a couple of days ago walking back to Seathwaite in the Lake District. Hasselblad 907x 50CFV II and 45P.

Is it a good time to buy S glass, Paul?

How useful is having a second body?

Luxury/necessity aside, I wouldn't personally want to carry an extra body into the field. I find a single 907x 'body' plus two P lenses more than sufficient weight in my bag or rucksack. I prefer to take the risk of single body failure than carry an additional 900g.

    Base M4 Mac Mini 16ram/256ssd

Whatever. I'm currently 'inbetween' desktop Macs and have been using an 8GB M1 MacBook in recent months for all my photographic work (Photoshop, Lightroom and occasional Phocus) with Hasselblad 50MP files mostly. It's perfectly okay for getting work done. The only time I notice a bit of...

    New Hasselblad XCD 3,4/75P

It should work fine. The data sheet states compatibility with "Hasselblad X System cameras & 907X cameras". The camera just needs to be able to activate AF and fire the shutter – all the optical profiling work is done in post within Phocus or Lightroom. Some of the new shorter focal length...

    New Hasselblad XCD 3,4/75P

The UK price includes 20% VAT. The UK price of the 75P without the "sales tax" is £1790. My guess would be a US price of $2199.

Best 1:1 macro options for digital Blads?

Maybe I am misunderstanding the situation, Peter, but I thought that the HC 120/4 I and II both work in leaf shutter mode with an X body and the XH adapter. You just lose AF (irrespective of firmware and/or presence of the orange dot).

So, who is buying a Alpa these days?

I'm not sure why you feel the need to defend ALPA so vigorously, Paul, I'm just saying how I perceive the brand. It doesn't really require a rebuttal from you. I know modern marketing is a shallow business but I expect better nowadays from a high-end brand. The website looks cheap.
