    Large format gear porn

Posts 46 and 47 from @Nokton48 and @lookbook should have been in the nsfw section! But silly me, the title of the thread clearly had the word porn in it!

Help Deciding purchasing 4x5 Film Camera as it compares to Medium Format Digital

Thank you for all your replies! I recently got hold of a cambo ultima45. My intention was to upgrade it to an actus xl. I‘ve never shot anything larger than a mamiya rz 67. But now I’m intrigued. I plan to get a pack of forma pan and experiment a bit. I like the idea of shooting only BW...

Taking pictures from the frog's perspective with the Phase One DF

I have found it. But it has no model number. I have the FA 402 magnifier in a box, so I presume what you need is the FA 401. Check your PM.

Taking pictures from the frog's perspective with the Phase One DF

I believe I have an angle finder for the DF. Let me hunt it up and I can tell you the model number.

IQ 60MP VS 100MP (color comparison only)

If I remember correctly, the 260 was the first of the IQ generation backs to manage long exposure. The 280 could only do 2 minutes. There was difference in the construction of the photo sites between these 2 sensors. Phase / dalas had a white paper on the 260 sensor.

IQ 60MP VS 100MP (color comparison only)

In my experience, the older IQ260 did have more pop straight out of camera. But this was mostly due the lower dynamic range. Once the levels are adjusted, to reduce the flat bits at the 2 ends of the histogram, I could not really see a difference. I.e it is the luma impacting the perception...

Will you be getting Capture One Studio?

As a hobbyist, I prefer not to have to pay. To that end, I have my old perpetual license at the last update before the whole subscription push. I use that to edit images from my legacy systems - canon and minolta. I used to upgrade my perpetual license every couple of years. No more! Now...

More on Diffraction - Why is it There?

Isn’t the diffraction correction in the Capture One lens tool trying to do that with some sort of deconvolution based sharpening?

    Fun with MF images 2024

Thanks! I hardly ever do anything outside capture one. Since I never really used Photoshop much, there was no real "unlearning" to do. I find Affinity useful for cloning and healing, where the brush in C1 is no precise enough. There are lots of YouTube videos on using various aspects of...

    Tripod Leveling with Legs

Dear Professor Grayson, Thank you for another excellent lecture! My usual process is to extend all 3 legs. Set the tripod down. Shorten 1 or 2 legs as needed to get the tripod more or less level by eye. Use the level in the camera to adjust the ball head! But now I should consider using...

    Fun with MF images 2024

I was at the Shuttleworth air show last weekend. They have an amazing collection, including working (flying) aeroplanes over a century old. Unfortunately, it was a little windy and I did not have the opportunity to see them fly. Perhaps another year... This was really fun with medium format...

The great tripod & head thread!

Sorry, that was a typo. It's the NB34. The NB50 would not be a snug fit! I also have the gitzo head that comes as a set with the traveller 2, but I don't use for a few reasons: 1. The friction control is rubbish - too tight or too loose. 2. The friction control knob is not a captive screw...

The great tripod & head thread!

The legs Of the traveller fold over making a more compact package. I use the 4 section series 2 traveller with my Phase One XF and cambo actus cameras. However, I do not use the gitzo head. I use the leofoto NN-34 ball head instead. This tucks in perfectly between the tripod legs (like the...

    Cambo Ultima questions

Thank you Will! That has been helpful. I have seen a few examples of the ultima available in the used market. The MV does have the advantage of being compact, but as I have an Actus DB II for portability, the Ultima will be cheaper.

    Cambo Ultima questions

Hi I've been considering a used Cambo Ultima for studio use. There are a few variations. I don't really care about the 45 or 36 variants, as my plan would be to get the Actus XL upgrade kit to allow me to use my actus mounted lenses. I'm hoping somebody could help clarify some things. I see...
