18x24 8x10 Norma 300 Symmar Norma Auto Iris by Nokton48, on Flickr

CFV16 Fat Pixel Digital Back Hasselblad 500C/M 80mm C T* black Planar. Broncolor Balloon 90 degrees camera left to set as overall fill. Broncolor Octobox 150 45 degrees camera left, one stop brighter than Balloon fill. Silver fill panel camera right at 45 degrees. Bracketed exposure at 1/2 stops, then picked the frame that looked best on my computer.

Sinar 18x24cm 8x10" Norma 300mm f5.6 chrome Schneider Symmar Sinar Norma Automatic Iris mount. 8x10" Norma Bag Bellows and Norma Monocular in the back. Sweet to look through. Norma Pan Tilt Head and Manfrotto tripod. A good Traveling Norma I used to use in the field. This is a super speedy camera to operate, no need to go back and forth when operating, all controls are fully seen and set from behind the camera. I've had to shoot fast and this does the job best IMO. This is a later version Norma as it does not have not have locking levers front or back. I guess they figured the camera was tight and smooth enough that it doesn't need locking levers. This one is as smooth operating as is possible.

All Sinar gear is amazing. Great precision stuff and pleasure to work with. Their pan and tilt heads are probably the best heads I have ever had and can deal with anything you throw at them. The same with the rotating holder that I am lucky to have - it can take up to 60kg of gear and have it swung around its axis with amazing, micrometer precision.
Also, the automatic shutter (the early version pictured on your photo) is absolutely a genius thing - you can have just one shutter for all your lenses and set the aperture with ease. Sinar put so much thought in their systems' modularity and usability.
Also, the workmanship and quality is top notch - their products can serve a lifitime or two.
It is a pity that they are no longer in business.

Testing CFV16 50mm Dist EI 100 Watering by Nokton48, on Flickr

Just got the CFV16 Digital Back, with the 50mm F4 Zeiss black CT* lens, metering with the olde CDS Finder, reads out in EV's. Fun to use this combo. I like Hasselblad Digital, this back is the original one from 2007, was marketed for the "V" cameras by Hasselblad. Very user friendly and straight forward.

Soon we will be watering like this again!

My CFV16 Hasselblad Fat Digital Back 36x36cm 60mm T* Distagon 500C/M 25th Anniversary P&F 200J Ringflash with Hasselblad Adapter. I used to use this Ringflash for Fashion Photography, back in the day. LOL. Now the CFV16 Digital Back gives me instant gratification. The Flash and Norman 200B pack (two packs actually) went to new York City Flash Clinic (sadly gone SNIFF). They Hot Rodded it to the Norman pack, everything needed adjusting by them, so the flashtube didn't "sparkle" after firing. This until runs off on 12V Dry Cell Batteries, trickle charged. I've replaced the batteries several times, just solder 'em right in. This works great and is an UBER HOOT to shoot with. Many more uses for this thing up ahead. Maybe buy some more cheap batteries, they were available on Amazon.

Yes, we need more fat pixel back activity. But when most having several cameras, the fat pictures can get a bit scarce. So little time and so much to do is my main problem.

That's a good hint, thank you! I'm a bit afraid of the power connection as the H25 draws its power from the firewire port. But maybe it's worth a try!

The old backs need lots of power, I have some PCMCIA firewirecard that is supposed to use external power supply feed, but I doubt it would be workable. Those old Macbooks are safer bets.

I use the following chain:
  1. Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 adapter (Link to Apple Store)
  2. Apple Thunderbolt 2 to Firewire 800 adapter (Link to Apple Store)
You may need another piece in the chain for converting FW 800 to FW 400. So, odds are high that something will not work as intended.
Apple states the latter supports up to 7W of power delivery. Don't know whether this is enough for an H25. The MBP may need to be connected to a power source.

I wonder if the beauty of the fat pixels you see can be attributed to the drawing of the older lenses instead. I see an "improvement" when shooting with older V instead of new XCD lenses.

Very interesting. Sometimes tricky to correctly ascribe causation when two variables change simultaneously.

Cue run-up in prices on older V lenses…

I dont know. But I find the images from the x2d and xcd lenses somewhat closest to fat pixel (not same) mf look of todays cameras( please dont blame me for this comment). But interesting comment. which specific lenses did you make this experience? When I had a fat pixel back I used a Hy6 with Rollei lenses. Which I found great.

Bought this Hasselblad Gunstock from KEH many years ago was a good deal. Later on bought this lens from Vienna, also a really great deal, Zeiss 500mm C Oberkocken. Hasselblad 500C/M 25th Anniversary Model, CFV16 Hasselblad Digital Back. Hasselblad CDS Finder, reads out in EV's, just set that on the lens. Meter calibrates to an F8 exposure. CFV top EI speed is 200, better to use 100. Should work OK in bright enough light.
KEH just overhauled this lens, it's in great shape now. Started getting sticky, so I sent t it in, glad I did!

The Hy6 Rollei AF lenses are Schneiders. I love them. The MF Schneiders and Zeiss lenses are excellent, too.
