Today's exercise. Create a jumble, using driveway trash, a vegetable, and something shiny. The green globe is one of those souvenirs they sell in gift shops in Scotland. Possession of the driveway trash was a battle between me and the squirrels.

The object here is to create a commercial sort of photo, showing the product, maker's name and features. Nothing fancy. One headache is that anodised metal displays different colors, depending upon where you are relative to the reflection. I decided to deal with that by not dealing with it. In a real conmercial shoot, I might have to equalize the colors in the handle. Anyone know what is considered good practice for this issue?

I take still life photos as a learning experience. In the previous post I tried to create an image with no center of interest or place to put your eye. Sort of an exercise in visual tension. In this image I use exactly the same bits and pieces, but try to draw you into the arrangement. This is sort of like doing scales and exercises on an instrument. The result has no artistic meaning, but it may make you better at your craft.

Government of Canada announces its plan to strengthen border security and our immigration system

To our American friends, the border looks like this now. Planes, fierce guards, attack bears. We are trying to help. Just easy on the 51st state comments, eh?

Best of the season to all.

I generally work with a material until I can get OK shots of it. At the moment, I am exploring Kosta Boda as an example of colored glass. The last shot was the most basic possible flat lay. Now I take the difficulty up and shoot 'til I am happy or I give up.

Okimono means, essentially, decorative thingie. This one is about a meter across, and I admire the amazing artistry that went into its making. Check ou the detail in the small crop.. I am not sure how old this is, but I got it as an antique about 30 years ago.
