More and more film fun with something other than a Leica M

Here I'm testing my suspended Broncolor Hazylight Modeling Light On. Additional FOBA F1000 Head down low left to illuminate shadows. The 3D Printed Tophat appears robust to my eye, we will see. This I intend to test out in the field soon. I can carry it around assembled for now. I will put the 5x7 Bag Bellows and Monocular on the back, for outdoor viewing. I do have the Reducing Back for 4x12/9x12 as well if I need cropping.

Here the Broncolor Hazylight Head is doing what it does best. Providing beautiful simulated "window lighting". I'm using the Broncolor Hazylight 1600JHead which is an unusual design.
 
One of my favorite non-Leica 35mm cameras is the middle 1950s Kodak Retina RF line. I have several: the one I used for this photo is a 1954 Retina IIIc that has been modified a little. (Its meter was bad and the top cover dented down rather badly when I got it. I've removed the meter and replaced the top cover with one from a Retina IIc, along with a few other necessary bits to affect the change, and it's also been completely CLA'd as well.) I started a test roll to check it in mid-December, got socked in with a very nasty cold during the holidays, and finally pulled the film a bit early and processed it just to be sure everything in the camera was working well.

I used a roll of Ferrania P30 as a test. I have a modified processing scheme for P30, but it remains a punchy, deep performer. The high silver content give it a striking look rather different from a lot of other films. This exposure popped out at me even before I scanned the exposures:

This for me is like finding the HOLY GRAIL of Plaubel Makiflex; I purchased a decent set (just teeniest bit of edge seperation dreaded) LANTHANIUM elements or some such. I've seen a few over the decades, Ken Ruth (famous repair Guy) warned me over very long phone conversation. He got a Maki Apo Lanthar all the way from MILAN to California; he couldn't fix it! He told me to BEWARE seperation in the 15cm Apo Lanthar. This one will not affect optical performance at all I believe. I'll get a Medium Yellow Filter and Rubber Hood to finish this. I bought the cells for 225BP, in a Linhof Compur I put on a Norma board. Recently I purchased this Auto Aperture marked F5.5, I have no idea what it fit. Well it seems to be VERY similar to the Linhof Compur in terma of construction. The image at infinity on the Auto Makkiflex is razor acute sharp on the glass, it appears a perfect match. The F/Stop Band will need to be re-calibrated, that's doable. So HAPPY I bought this for a great deal.
 
Scan of a 4x5 Polaroid Type 55 negative, shot in Upper Buttermilk Gorge and taken back in the day when I could still hike the gorges around Ithaca carrying a heavy pack with 4x5 gear and big tripod.

A conversation on another forum led me to look in the recesses of my closet and discover a circa 1989 Olympus Infinity Stylus Zoom DLX that someone gave me about 20 years ago. I stuck a battery into it and it seemed to work, so I dragged it out on a walk with a fresh load of HP5 in it.

After processing and examining the film, there was a lot of dirt in it that got jammed into the emulsion, and I see a couple of light leaks. But otherwise it works well ... Four pix I rendered out to a finish, and edited out the blemishes for the most part.

The light used for above .

I've had these two original FOBA Combitube Light Stands up for a while, now I've set the original other pieces to complete these two 1600J strobe spotlight units. Adding the counterweights make these a lot safer, now they won't tip over. I'm cutting down some Honeycomb Grids to fit the fronts of these. Repurpose what I already have. Anyway these are small footprint Retro Vibe Spots fully functional Broncolor workhorses.
 
Been absent for some time. 🤷‍♂️

But now I’m taking a deep dive into B&W film photography similar to my last extended venture several years ago. Mostly with my beloved M2.

Still shooting and enjoying the M2.🙂

But the deep end of the pool beckons and I’m enjoying many different cameras and lenses. Most of my time lately has been spent shooting some of my favorite older cameras. The rest of my time has gone toward developing film, scanning and processing images. It is all a wonderful craft for me as I absolutely enjoy the process.

Some early spring color as captured with Pentax 17 + Candido 400 color negative film. This is my first time using the film, and I'm not sure I'd buy it again: Many frames have random red blotches which don't necessarily look like a lack of antihalation as seen with films like Harman Phoenix. But I felt it worked okay for this photo.

Wow, the problem with falling behind is the risk of never catching up. It reminds me of the lyrics from the song Ruby Tuesday by Keith Richards:

"There's no time to lose," I heard her say
"Catch your dreams before they slip away
Dying all the time, lose your dreams and you
Will lose your mind, ain't life unkind?"

I have been so busy catching up on everything, and it can be too much… I need to find time to learn to dream again. So, let me simply say all the images posted are greatly appreciated instead of commenting on just a few.

I do have a lot of film images I can post, but there is only so much time and energy. Here is one for today. The town where I live is active in art projects of all kinds and there are many examples of art placed throughout the downtown area. I feel fortunate that we can all enjoy street art here in many forms.
