Non-repairable Profoto pack (D4)

Some time ago, my D4 2400 pack started to freeze up intermittently. Finally, it failed completely. I sent it in for repair only to be told that Profoto no longer supports it. The techs can hack fixes for some minor things, but major board issues are not repairable.

Apparently, the D4 fails often and fails hard. The techs say if you want a solid product get one of the Pro series packs. I bought the D$ because it does things the Pro packs don't do (drives four heads), not because I was looking for a cheap and cheerful thingie that I could throw out in a few years. Fragility was not something that arose when the D4 was sold to me. Shame on you Profoto and a warning to anyone considering a used D4 purchase. Don't.

Schematic Works in Brooklyn is the Silvino's of the East Coast.
Repair and service only of most brands of lighting and grip stuff.

Hi,
Thanks for sharing your experience.
I already move out of the European brands, but it's information with sharing.

Best regards,

Thanks for this post - I've a bunch of D4s at work (museum) and for my freelance work for the same reasons you post; in a creative studio environment only 2 outlets does not work for me. So, I'm trying to squeeze some life out of the last 6 packs (we) have. I can see at work I'm going to need to switch over to Broncolor soon. I've used Silvino's over the years, but I'm finding he's not returning my emails or answering the phone. I'm going to reach out to Schematic Works tomorrow, and thanks for the lead. Anybody have any other leads for photo repair out of warranty? Thanks in advance, Kevin
