RX1R II vs A7C II?

I've been looking at cameras and was going to get the A7C II.

I'm leaning toward the RX1R II.

Thoughts?

Knowing nothing about your priorities, I can't opine as to which I think might be best for you, but for me, the answer is "no" to both, as I already own an A7R4.

Hi Peter, I still love my RX1R-II as a walk-around/travel/street camera. It's got one of the best Zeiss lenses built for Sony, a great sensor and very fast flash sync speeds. I have looked at the A7CR as a back for my Actus and will probably get one at some point but the RX1R-II will be one of the cameras I probably never part with, a maudlin intransigence that is probably not sanely founded I realize.

Obviously spec-wise, the A7CII/R have better ISO, IBIS, faster framerates and weather sealing and way better battery life fwiw.

I also like the RII because it still runs some of the Sony PlayMemories apps I wish they never got rid of.

Good luck, really not a bad choice either way.

I bought a used RX1rII a few years ago and tried it out. I had an A7rII for years, which is pretty close in terms of autofocus and usage. I ended up selling it a few months later though.

I found the RX1 body style is not very ergonomic for hand-holding. The lens takes up a lot of the camera body and there's little area to grip. That's why you see a LOT of people get an add-on grip for these. IMO, it defeats the purpose of the small size a bit. I don't have an A7CII, but I found it quite comfortable to hold in the store by comparison.

The Zeiss 35/2 on the RX1 series is one of the main reasons people keep the cameras even today, but I didn't really end up loving it as much as I expected. It's a bit wider than 35mm in usage. The 35/2 has a lovely rendering if you want to commit to it though. You can think of it as spending the money on that lens.

The A7CII will have far, far better autofocus tracking if that makes a difference for you. I found the AF leap from the A7rII to A7IV to be substantial. The RX1rII vs A7CII will be even more so.

Hmm. I had the RX1R-II also. As one poster mentioned, think of it as buying one the best Zeiss 35mm f2 lenses ever made and getting a free camera attached to it. As for the “free camera”, yes it had a large sensor but everything else wasn’t shall we say all that user friendly. The menu system was clunky, the batteries were terrible (I had six with me for a day on the streets) and manual focusing was not good at all. After selling it I pined for a version III, as you will find many of us did. It was not to be … until the a7CR. Now I’m a happy camper indeed.

Here we go again. How long will this one take to wither and die on the vine? I had both the original RX1 and RX1RII. Loved the image quality but not the price. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1907791-REG/sony_rx1r_iii_digital_camera.html
Oldie from the RX1R:
