I've been to the pumping engine station at Kew Gardens several times. They have one of the engines running demonstrations on the weekend, and it's magnificent in operation. I believe the one that's running is a 90 inch bore. It is just amazing thing to see it fire up and, all of a sudden, lift 10 tons of water up 20 feet as if it was nothing...Internals of the old Cruquius steam pumping station - Cruquius NLD

Cruquius is thought to be the largest steam engine – and certainly the largest beam engine – ever built.
The engine was built by Harvey & Co, of Hayle, Cornwall.
It is an annular-compound steam engine, with two cylinders (one within the other).
The diameter of the inner (High Pressure) cylinder is 84 inches (2.1 m); the diameter of the outer (Low Pressure) annular cylinder is 144 inches (3.7 m).
