Thoughts on using the Pentax 67 55-100mm for architectural/interior work on the current 100mp sensors

Curious to know if anyone is using this lens with a gfx or similar sensor setup for arch work? I know the canon 50+90 ts-e would probably be the easier option, but I’ve read that the Pentax 55-100 has very low distortion and is significantly more affordable. Personally I like the color and tones I get out of Pentax lenses better, but concerned about distortion shifted, and if it’s easily corrected without too much hassle. It would also nice to lighten The number of lenses I have to pack. Any thoughts welcome.

I've used the third generation Pentax 67 55mm on a GFX 50R. It was excellent, but bulky and heavy. The 55-100 is a lot bigger and heavier. I would find the 1200 gram load a problem. However, the reviews on Pentax Forum are good and several people note the lack of distortion.

Whether you can use the full amount of shift room available on an adapter is an open question. I have a P67 200mm f/4 (the new model, not the Takumar) that vignettes hard long before it runs out of image circle or shift room on a Fotodiox P645 to GFX adapter using the Pentax P645 to P67 adapter.

I have the Pentax 67 55-100, but have not used it with shift (I don't have that adapter). The Mamiya 645 50mm shift lens is quite good and a lot smaller and lighter. I use them on the Hassy X2D, so similar resolution.

I just tried out the 55-100 again and it has a lot of CA in the OOF areas. Probably easy enough to deal with. My copy is sharper at 75 and 100 than at 55, but I'm not (yet) testing it shifted. I'll try to compare it to the Mamiya 50. I can shift the Pentax 645 lenses, but they have smaller image circles than either of the other two lenses.

I'm not too worried about weight, I'd only be using it on jobs on tripod, and I sold off my digi-view cameras a year or so ago and moved to rigid shift adapters to avoid the hassles with alignment on the standards going out, or certain lenses (like the Pentax 67 55) not playing well with a view camera but working fine on a rigid adapter. I've had the P67 55 before, and it was pretty decent, but was hoping the 55-100mm might be a little than the prime with regards to distortion. I did like it's rendering though.

Yes, I'm also curious of the shifted coverage at the long end. I also had the last version of the Pentax 67 200mm and found the same result with a similar setup (kipon shift adapter and the P645-67 adapter.)

Matt, I also had that Mamiya 50mm shift lens, but I might have had a bad copy. I found It didn't give me very good results on the 50mp MF sensors and sold it. If you get a chance to test your 55-100mm it against the Mamiya let me know what your results are.

Thanks!-Chris
