XT 90 Tilt out

As mentioned in the past - its finally out:

Probably very expensive to "upgrade" because its a lens swap.

Perosnally I think the XT tilt is more as must have for the 32,40,50 than for 70 and 90, but its nice to see that they're completing their system.

There's not thaat many situations where you need tilt with the 90 as you are already quite close up.

Next up:

+ XT XL (e.g. 18-20mm shift left right)
+ IQ5 250/300 (depending on sensor format)
+ XM system (if "XM" is the mirrorless system name) plus lenses

Re: the Instagram video... Handheld, 150MP sensor, 90mm lens, moving boat, arms extended and just a rear LCD screen. Yep, just the scenario for a tilt lens camera like that :D
Yet it looks "forced" - a contrived scenario. You rarely need tilt for the 90. Most scenes are so focused on an area from a direct frontal perspective that its then all sharp. Literally the only scenario is landscape of a sea scene / wide area with a lot of soil in the foreground.

Far more important here is the option for a backspacer - ie to exploit the 90 HR.

... Meaning another cue for the XT XL as it would make not much sense to introduce the rear spacer for lenses like the 90 if there wasn't an option down the road to fully exploit that lens.

Maybe the XT XL is the biggie post Summer and then we'll get IQ5 end of year, beg. of next year.

My understanding is that we'll see a 18mm L/R XT XL.

I use tilt and swing with 100mm and 150mm lenses all the time. If I used this system, I would be happy to have a 90mm that can do tilt and swing.

Well its out and there's not even an announcement from CI. Also didn't see an announcement on the 70.

They must be smoking the wrong weed at Phase One, there is no other explanation
for these absurd prices.

They are effectively the only producers of 54 x 40.5mm backs and the lenses with shutters to go with them. One can only wonder if this recent stratification is only due to market pressures.

I miss the old days of moderate premium view camera lens prices. But keep in mind, Phase One may set their selling price, but they are not the manufacturer, they have to buy from Rodenstock, and they are reliant upon the prices of these lenses from Rodenstock, which have gone up significantly, with or without Phase One's involvement.

In related news, a Leica 75mm lens is $14,595.

I just wonder where are their clients?

On IG I searched for Phase One XC tags - I found two pics from owners:

So they buy a 60k system and post this, LOL. A little Sony would have been sufficient.

C'mon Phase, you need to do better. I'd like to see upgrade pricing at 3k max.

I really would upgrade my 90 XT, but it seems it is not possible.

Public forums or photo sharing sites are a very small arbiter of how many end users exist for a given product.

We have sold XC cameras, but I do know that the majority of those systems sold were to China-based end users.

That’s a new one. It’s almost like a lens mount now. Could make some sense if you just use a couple of short focal lengths and have money to spare. One less point of failure.

One might as well just get an Alpa TC and then not be constrained with a one trick pony mount.

I truly think product management should have put more thought into this.

1) Why on earth spend 20k on a mount plus lens if the lens has a bigger IC then the back and you can’t re use it on a bigger tech cam?

2) the system is not thought through. You should have one lens which you can reuse across body formats via plug and play.

As said the TC is arguably more compact and any lens used on it can be used on the bigger tech cam brothers.

I am afraid which the introduction of the S4 which will have native AF, F2 Leica class APO benchmark optics etc it will be very though to make a case for XC based lenses.

Let’s hope at least the new beck is not 3:2
