Guide to Leica and Third Party Lenses

A few months later a short update: I shot with the Leica M6 occasionally and really like it. I mostly used the C-Sonnar 50mm 1.5 which is a very nice lens, and I added soon a cheap Elmar-C 90mm that also seems to perform well for my landscape purposes. Now I just added a Super-Wide-Heliar 15mm and Color-Skopar 21mm 4 and am very curious how they will perform. It's difficult to understand the appeal of this system before you used it once. But the tiny optics and high optical performance are really nice features and unique compared to other systems.

Good to hear you're enjoying your M6.

I have been shooting with the Minolta branded version of that same 90mm lens (early series M-Rokkor 90mm f/4 ... made in Wetzlar on the same production line) for over a decade: It's a wonderful lens, a little bit of light falloff wide open but a lovely performer in a very small package.

I recently bought the Color-Skopar 21mm f/3.5, had the earlier f/4 version some years ago. The f/4 version works well on film but has some issues with digital sensors; the f/3.5 version is recomputed and performs very well on digital sensors now. I had the very first generation Heliar 15/4.5 many years ago (late 1990s) and it was a good lens. The later versions (typ II and III) are outstanding. (I have the HyperWide 10mm f/5.6 now: it is a stunningly good lens but almost too wide for my photographic eyes!)

All good stuff :D

I've just finished testing my new 21mm Zeiss Biogon f2.8 T ZM lens, my only non-Leica objective. So far I find it the equal of any Leica lenses and definitely a keeper. I will be coding it. My only criticism is the lack of a lens shade but Amazon has several choices.
