I’ve been eyeing something to use with my GFX 50S (original one) for product photography.

I have a Canon TS-E 50 mm, but I’d really like to have a couple more focal lengths (90 mm is probably most important, maybe a 35 mm after).

It looks as though, unlike an Actus, I could use my Canon lens on this camera with a GFX (though the electronic lens board is pricey!). That is cool, though I was anticipating buying Mamiya 67 lenses (with floating optics) because they seem to be good value.

It looks like this would be a good platform for me. However, I don’t fully know what I’d need. For example, you mention the universal length bellows are best for lenses longer than 100 mm. Does that mean it would be better to have a different bellows for my purposes?

I’m pretty sure I’d spring for the rotafoot, so does that mean the most relevant items (for me) that you have for sale would be

Arca Swiss Universalis with bellows 10 cm, wide bag $1800
And possibly the Monorail II Extension Unit 15cm $250

Sorry for the long post, I’m only vaguely familiar with these systems, so I’m not quite sure what would work best for me. Also, I’m shopping opportunistically which makes it harder.

I would contact Rod Klukas with Arca-Swiss USA. He can answer any of your questions regarding their product lines. I use a M-line 2, which is very similar to a Universalis for both 4x5 film and digital using a Fuji GFX body and am happy with my decision to go this route. The only tradeoff I can see is that this setup has no good options for a wide-angle lens. For me, this is an annoyance as I mainly shoot landscapes. For product photography, this shouldn't be a significant issue.

I don't have any experience with using Canon lenses with the Universalis but I don't think the 35mm will work with a GFX body in a rotafoot. You would be able to use the Pentax 645 35mm lens.

All those copal lenses I’m selling would be a great addition for whoever buys this AS set.

If by 35mm you mean the Schneider-Kreuznach APO-Digitar 35/5.6, it does work on a GFX body with Rotafoot. You are limited to 7.5mm of shift because the rear lens cell is inside the GFX mount. However, that's a very usable amount of shift. That lens is a mainstay on my F-Universalis + GFX 100S outfit.

The Pentax-A 35mm f/3.5 is also an excellent lens, and it shifts a lot more. However, it has the classic wide angle retrofocus moustache distortion, so it is not a great choice for people shooting architecture.

Thanks Rob, and for all your excellent writing about the Universalis. I think he was asking about a Canon 35mm lens, which I didn't think would work. And even if it did focus, there would seem little benefit to using it as there would be little or no shift possible.

Sorry for the confusion! The only canon lenses I would be interested in using are the latest generation of Canon TS-E. Other than that, I’d be looking for vintage medium or large format glass.

A few items have sold but please let me know if you have any interest in what's left before I list on eBay. Thanks
