Hi friends,

over the past years every once in a while i read about a fujifilm digital back for their GX680 system, it was announced in 2003, but until today i cant find neither any info or review, nor any second hand samples on ebay etc.

so i guess it was just a case study that was never realised?

do you know more on the fate of that back?

cheers and happy new lunar year

Someone definitely had one, recently!: https://github.com/Beep6581/RawTherapee/issues/4204
I like how they still used .RAF back then.

Chip production technology has been their since the 80s, just the economics of such a large chip I believe tend to be exponential. For example The dicomed big shot/Rollei Q16 both used the Fairchild (now BAE) CCD6161 which was 61mm x 61mm! There’s actually more sensors that size than I thought: https://www.apo.nmsu.edu/arc35m/Ins...ocuments/ARCTICDetectorSelection_20140130.pdf

Finally, there’s actually someone making a 92mm x 92mm chip! https://www.teledyne-e2v.com/shared/content/resources/untitled folder/CCD290-99.pdf

Yes, we will have it some day. There is no way to stop the technology steamroller. The question is only when ?
