8x10 Norma 2 Foba C40 Tripods 1000mm f16 Apo Ronar by Nokton48, on Flickr

After assembling a good prototype of the lens assembly, it takes two Norma 4x5 Standards, I have a couple with buggered focus (ruined) which are perfect for the lens support part. The back half is the 8x10 Norma Rear Standard, almost as heavy as the lens. So a FOBA C40 Tripod at the front, right in the center of the assembly. The rear C40 has a triple pole rising mechanism, similar setup to what Mr Wolfe was using, just different parts. He obviously had a Master Machinist helping him build stuff, I am using Gaffer Tape. LOL. I had Keith at Custom Bellows make a 5x7 Extra Long Norma Bellows (not in the original catalog). In the back end that's an UBER RARE Norma Special Bellows, which goes from 5x7 to 8x10. I sent Keith pictures of the original unit (he made them for Sinar I believe) and this I have never seen in all my years of Norma collecting. So I sent Keith Norma 8x10 and 5x7 Bellows Frame, and he built one for me as new. I will add a standard 4x5 Compendium on the front, and of course the Norma Shutter (which takes Norma Glass Discs and 4 inch gelatins). So the plan is coming together! HEH HEH :)

1000mm Rodenstock Apo Ronar ready to go! 1 by Nokton48, on Flickr

Here it is ready to use. Back Mount fitted with Gaffer Tape very strong mount. To use I would add Compendium on the front, a Sinar Norma Shutter, and a lot of bellows. This will work for now.

Sinar Norma 4x5 Handy Super BubbaPack HV Battery Handy Bubble Level by Nokton48, on Flickr

A Friend built me this "Super BubbaPack" high voltage rechargeable Battery, for my Vivitar 365 Flash Units. Recycles LIKE NOW, no delay. This fires automatic exposure thyristor out to SEVENTY FEET, good for any situation, really. Shown on my homemade Sinar Norma Handy. My latest embellishment on the Handy, is a modern Sinar Handy Bubble Level/Mirror Unit, attached atop the Mamiya 7 43mm Viewfinder. Useful for "Hail Mary" shots, not looking through the viewfinder. Initial test shooting coming up soon.

I see you are using the Super Angulon 8/65mm on your camera. Are you happy with the quality? I have the lens here, as well as a ground glass unit and was wonderin whether it's worth the effort of building such a camera.

I need to get out and shoot more tests with this camera. During the eclipse I did carry the Sinar Norma Handy and several interesting photos were taken. I do have the Schneider Center Filter for the 65mm F8. It covers 9x12cm completely; It is very sharp in the center, good enough for 6x9cm. The center filter adjusts the edges for film density, but dosen't correct the very outer edges for sharpness of course.

I also use the lens on a 4x5 Sinar Norma for uber wide shots. Overall the lens is a keeper for me; Must like it, cause I have three of them.

1000mm F16 Apo Ronar Wolfe Configuration Close Up Looks Good by Nokton48, on Flickr

This is very close to what Mr. Wolf was using out in the field. A standard sized 8x10 Norma Bellows, three Norma Auxiliary Standards (I have another one coming). Three Norma 4x5 standards. The Compendium Hood is a Norma Tapered 4x5 Bellows. Viewing through the lens image looks really good and sharp. The two C40's provide ROCK SOLID support even in strong wind. Tripods may be weighted down in the field. Measured bellows draw is Fifty-three Inches, so calculated Bellows draw factor is TWO STOPS for this close-up.

Thats the Nikkor Tele, so at least it doesn't need a full 1.2 meters just to get to infinity! The longest lens I have is an Apo-Nikkor 610mm ƒ9 process lens, and that thing needs a hefty front standard to keep still. It practically fills an entire Sinar 141mm lens board, and without a shutter I have to add the Sinar shutter to the front standard as well.

Yeah, sorry. Wikipedia is not the best, or at least not the most concise, source of internet slang descriptions.

no problem Matt -
... when people talk about large format and porn here in the forum, the old boys immediately know what it's really about!
it's about something that's really fun ...
about big, heavy and beautiful cameras! - and nothing that could distract from that : ) ..

What a lovely collection of lenses. Three of them I had as well and regret to let go particularly the 80XL. What a stellar small lens! The 110xl I recently got, no picture taken as of today :)
